Oh, Tel Aviv!

TLV!

TLV!

“TLV! TLV! TLV!” I had heard those guys chant back at Lester B. Pearson Airport in Toronto before embarking on my study abroad program to Rothberg International School. I had planned on chanting “JRSLM, JRSLM, JRSLM!” but it didn’t flow, nonetheless I was excited to return back to Israel so I had jumped in. Now, as I have had the opportunity to visit the city a couple more times over my exchange period I feel like jumping and chanting “TLV, TLV, TLV!” every time someone mentions going there.

Upon trying to describe the city I fall short of what it is. It’s truly a remarkable and amazing city! It’s laidback, chic, fun, beautiful, intriguing, artistic… it’s the world in one city! You can find everything here from New York style cupcakes, to traditional Israeli Hummus- and even some of the best pizza in the world.

Moreover you find the coolest stores, whether its clothing you’re into, or art, fashion or jewelry, there will surely be something that catches your eye, probably one of a kind, and it’ll probably be something that makes you go WOW! Be warned though… bring your wallet if you want to buy it…or for your sake better to leave it at home!

Tel Aviv is a city that needs to be explored. You need to walk around each neighbourhood, and street and see how it changes from block to block, stroll along each beach and see how each place has its own subculture, ride the Tel-O-Fun bikes (city rental bikes-like Toronto’s Bixi) to experience how Tel Avivians move around town. Play Matkot (“raquets” in Hebrew) at the beach to see how addictive it is and why everyone plays it along the shore-It is not as easy as it looks!
